Tire question: Minivan tech. Factory spec is P235/60r17. I want to put on a set of LT225/65r17. Any foreseeable issues with the change?

This is my go-to link

size issues aside, going from a P to an LT might bring a harsher ride.

Nope. New tires are only about 10 mm larger in diameter.

What’s the load range difference? That’ll be your biggest problem.

Shouldn’t that affect gearing and speedo accuracy?

Why oh why would you put LT-metric tires on a minivan?

My advice: don’t do it. Stick with factory recommended tyres. And the LT rating is likely to be a harsher ride.

Yeah but diameter is directly proportional to speed, so your speed will only be 1.5% off. So like 61 mph actual at 60 mph. Your speedo is probably off on calibration by more than that.

Your overall circumference of going to be pretty close, so mechanically there’s minimal concern there, but most LT treads tend to be chunkier, so there will be more road noise, potential issues with vibration from the chunks, harsher ride, and they’re likely heavier, increasing unspring weight. Some tire places may not install LT tires on it or they may not warranty them.

My suggestion is to get a set of Extra Load (XL on the sidewall or written out) passenger tires with a high (60-80K) treadwear life. Yes, the Sienna (and other fat-ass minivans like the Odyssey and Quest) goes through tires because it’s such a porker, but proper tire selection and maintenance will do a lot to make them last longer.
